3rd Grade Weekly Announcements May 30-June 2, 2017

Can you believe this is the last week of school?  Where has all the time gone?  I want to personally thank each and every one of you for the gift of your child this past school year.  It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of their education and I will always have a special place in my heart for each of them.  Thank you for all your help and support throughout this year.  Without such wonderful parents, the year would not have gone as smoothly as it did.  I wish you all a relaxing and safe summer!  🙂

Reminders:

School hot lunch or milk will not be available this week.  Students will need to bring a lunch and drink, Tuesday and Wednesday.

I will be providing lunch for the class on Thursday, June 1, 2017.

This Week in 3rd Grade:

Reading:  Ramona Quimby wrap up.  We will be watching Ramona and Beezus and working on our 3rd Grade Memory Books

Math:  Continue working  Unit 11-two Dimensional Shapes.  We will have s short math test on lessons 11.1-11.5 on Wednesday, May 31, 2017.

Social Studies:  Students will finish working on their Economics Lap books.  These will count as a test grade.

Science:  Energy pyramids and food chains.

Religion:  Love One Another.  Open book test on Wednesday, June 31, 2017

3rd Grade Reminders:

Today, May 24, 2017,  is our End of the Year party to Rocket Lanes.  Students are to wear a St. John spirit shirt, jeans, or appropriate shorts.  If your child would like to play in the arcade area, they will need to bring extra money.  Lunch will be provided.

Thursday, May 25, 2017, we will all attend mass for the 8th Grade Graduation.  Students are to wear their mass day uniform.

***Don’t forget, Friday, May 26, 2017, is  a half day.  🙂

Next week, May 29, 2017…NO SCHOOL in observance of Memorial Day.

Beginning Tuesday, May 30, 2017, there will no longer be any lunch service provided by Golden Corral.  Milk will also not be available.  Students will need to bring a lunch and drink all of next week.

 

 

 

3rd Grade Weekly Announcements May 22-26, 2017

Reminders:

Monday, May 22, 2017, School-wide band concert at 1:15.  All students will be treated to a performance by our very own St. John Band.

Wednesday, May 24, 2017, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade End of the Year Party.  The chartered bus will arrive a little before 9:00 and we will depart promptly at 9:00.  Students wanting to play in the arcade will need to bring additional funds.  Parents wanting to attend will need to provide their own transportation, but will be able to follow the bus to Rocket Lanes.

This week in 3rd Grade:

Reading:  We will finish reading Ramona Quimby Age 8, and continue working on our novel study.  Ramona Quimby Test on Friday, May 26, 2017.

Language:  Combining sentences using commas and proper use of quotations

Spelling:  No more spelling tests!!  🙂

Math:  Two dimensional shapes

Science:  Energy pyramids and food chains.  Students will create an in class project and create an illustration of an energy pyramid.  Students will need to label and place items in correct order.  This will count as a test grade.

Social Studies:  Natural resources.  Students will create a lap book based on information from their economics packet.  This will count as a test grade.

Religion:  Love One Another

3rd Grade Weekly Announcements May 15-19, 2017

Reminders:

I know summer vacation is on the minds of everyone, but we still have 14 more days of school.  We had an absolute great week and I’m looking forward to finishing off the year with bang!!  Please remind your child to do their best!!  I know they can all do it!!!  🙂

End of the Year Party permission slips are due Wednesday, 17, 2017 along with the $20 fee.  If you would like to join us, you are more than welcome!!  Parents will  have to provide their own means of transportation to and from Rocket Lanes.  I will need some moral support as I have already promised the class I will put on a pair of skates…wish me luck…it’s been a while.  LOL

Reading:  We will continue reading Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary.  Text based comprehension through listening comprehension, recalling key details, summarization, and sequencing.  Reading vocabulary quiz on Friday, May 19, 2017.

Spelling:  Contractions.  Spelling test on Friday, May 19, 2017.  Please study the following words:  I’m, he’s, aren’t, couldn’t, won’t, wouldn’t, weren’t, she’s, wasn’t, I’d, let’s, who’s, don’t, he’d, there’s, it’s, would’ve, where’s, there’s, hadn’t

Language:  Review sentences, sentence fragments, nouns, and plural nouns

3rd Grade Weekly Announcement May 8-12, 2017

Reading:  We will begin our final novel study this week in between testing.  Students will listen as I read, Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary.  If you have the book at home, and would like to bring it to class, please feel free to do so.  Due to testing, we will not have any reading or spelling test this week.

Language:  Sentence and sentence fragment review

Math:  Unit 10 review on Monday, May 9, 2017.  Unit 10 Test on Tuesday, May 10, 2017. Time permitting, we will begin Unit 11 on two-dimensional shapes.

Science:  How living things change and grow

End of the year MAP Testing will begin the week of May 8, 2017.  Please have your child to school on time as we will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.

This week in 3rd Grade:

Reading:  Essential question:  Why are goals important?  Students will read Rocketing into Space and  Out of this World!  The Story of Ellen Ochoa.  Text based comprehension through rereading and identify the problem and stating the solution.  Reading comprehension and vocabulary test on Friday, May 5, 2017.

Spelling:  Vowel team syllables.  Spelling test on Friday, May 5, 2017.  Please study the following words:  explained, remain, reading, detail, presoak, monkey, brief, preteen, about, allowing, complain, enjoys, poison, repeats, unreal, able, castle, towel, repaid, approached

Language:  Adverbs

Math:  Comparing fractions with like numerators or denominators

Science:  Living Things; How our environment changes with each season

Social Studies:  We are still working on our Government Lap Books, but should be finished by mid-week.  I have been reminding students that these books count as a test grade and they need to do their best.  Please encourage them to do their best as well.  At the end of the week, we will begin our final unit on Economics.

3rd Grade Weekly Announcements April 24-28, 2017

Reminders:

Soaring Eagles 5K on Saturday, April 29, 2017.  It’s not too late to sign up!!!

We will not have school mass on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.  Students may wear regular uniform.

We should be ready to send our book, Diary of a 3rd Grader to the publisher on Wednesday.  If you have not sent in your order, please do so by Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Even if you do not wish to purchase a book, please return the form with your signature and mark no thank you.  If we have all forms returned, we can earn a free copy for our school library.  Thank you!!!

Reading:  Essential question:  How does weather affect us?  Students will read historical fiction stories, The Big Blizzard and Nora’s Ark.  Text based comprehension through making, predicting, and revising.  Reading vocab quiz on Friday, April 28, 2017.

This week in 3rd Grade:

Reading:  Essential question:  How do you decide what is important?  Students will read myths and drama’s.  On Friday, following the spelling and reading test, students will make puppets and perform the play, King Midas and the Golden Touch.  Text based comprehension through making, confirming, and revising predictions.  Reading comprehension and vocabulary test on Friday, April 21, 2017.

Spelling:  Prefixes un, re, pre, and dis.  Spelling Test on Friday, April 21, 2017.  Please study the following words:  disagreed, prepaid, previous, resell, unlucky, dislike, preschool, rebuild, reprint, untied, disappear, precook, return, unwrap, unbeaten, robot, tiny, label,unknown, recover

Language:  adjectives and articles a, an, and the

Math:  Unit 10, Comparing Fractions

Social Studies:  Our Government.  Students will begin an in class project.  They will create a lapbook all about our government.  This will count as a test grade.
